Northern Pike: 01 – 29 – 2015 Day 2

Working for Pike on this day was inside the ice house, which was nice because of the high wind today, we were using small bait casting reels, hair jigs and ice rods designed for the reels, 6 to 10 ft deep. Thin tieable wire leader and shiner minnows on a few Tip Ups. Watching the Pike (on our new underwater cameras) swim up to our jig and shiner combo and watching the Pike study the bait before hitting it is an education in itself. We are studying them as they study our presentation, understanding how to work the bait, what color hair jig is best, (or no hair jig) what level of activity to put on the presentation and what spooks the big Pike and what excites the smaller Pike and when not to set the hook on a little hammer handle. Awesome, as the photos show.
