This father and son caught there fish on minnows in the weeds around 11 ft on a small Crappie lake and enjoyed the comfort of a wood ice house, sort of a pain taking it off every day but still a great comfort to my clients. As the great weather continues across the north country the Crappie are biting well, the 50’s is forecasted for today as I am heading out now and to be in the 30’s and mid 40’s the next several days. Can’t wait for open water, got my boat just sitting on the ice waiting for it to melt! Just joking.

Several people are asking me about how deep to fish for Crappie, now, we are on a small lake with “very dark water” and catching them around 9 to 12 ft in the weeds, other people are catching them in deep water on the bigger lakes. Each lake is going to be a little different including water color, max depth as well as type of lake. The small lakes provide us with no competition and as the photos show, good fishing.
