Today, the weather was sunny but windy. This father and son were a lot of fun as we all talked loud, laughed and said “set the hook” as we all were getting strikes. Having fun is a big part of our experience with all my clients, as we always enjoy the day. Talking loud sometimes is part of our fun together. Working the bait slowly has been a big part of our success the last 3 days. The color of our jig and working very slow was important on these bright sunny days, as well as other days.
Here is a good example, one location we fished today we lost 6 jigs (broke off) due to the snags and logs we were fishing in. As hard as this is going to be for you to believe the description that follows is true. I stayed in this spot as I knew it was a good location for Walleye. We switched to slip bobbers and produced 4 nice Walleye within 30 minutes. During the cleaning process I was astonished to find 4 of our jigs with the fat head minnow still attached to each jig head inside the 4 Walleyes stomachs, 1 in each Walleyes stomach. Now, a short while before that we broke off on logs by pulling hard to snap the line and re tied on new jigs and then switched to slip bobbers. Those fish actually returned to those broke off jigs stuck in the logs and bit hard enough to remove the jig and minnow from the logs that they were stuck into. Slow, was our solution the last 3 days, very slow.
