(“NO FISH NO PAY, GUARANTEED”.)

1 – 29 – 2020

Long and informational report today.

Still on the small lakes, nice.

For us, we stay on my ice roads, no where else. I have taken a few cruise’s around the ice on the 3 lakes I am on and that stopped a few days ago. SLUSH can be found on most lakes and its getting deeper. With that said

The mild winter continues, the high 30’s are now forecast for this Sunday, for North Central Vilas County WI., take a look.

Our Gills are still weed related with an occasional suspended fish along with the Crappie. Some of our biggest Gills are on deep wood structure. Most Gills for us are on pieces of Crawler, Wax worm, tiny hard lures and yes my favorite, a tiny piece of Hot Dog and or Bologna. I know, laugh if you will but, it works for us.

Perch, Tiny minnows, Wax worms and pieces of Crawler. Depending what lake I am on, bottom Perch only, the next lake there suspended and my 3rd lake there only mixed in with the Gills but, bottom related. This is possibly due to the largest forage base available for each small lake, as these lakes are about 15 miles apart.

Pike, well not much to say here, the pattern is the same. Weeds, pockets in the weeds, drop offs next to the weeds, edges of the weed line, some on deeper flats, Golden Shiners, Tip Ups and TIP UP!!

Walleye for us are still shallow, 4 to 22 ft. This what I call shallow and of course this depends what lake you are fishing.

Ok, well, this is how we do it. Golden Shiners only. A few years ago we switched over to a single wide gap drop shot hook, experiment with what size works for you. No more trebles for us for a few years now. Others use what works best for them.

We increased our “on the ice” Walleye by 40%, over the traditional small treble hook. Try a Blue hook, Red, dark Green, Purple and other colors, this works for us. Open water is the same. Some of our blackest water lakes produce during day time only, now.

Deep water Walleye are being caught now during the day and this will get even better. I watched a Professional Bass event and they showed looking directly at the fisherman’s Graph, several contestant’s jigging on the bottom of a lake, hooking and landing Bass from 40 to 45 ft deep. Walleye and other specie are no different. During certain times of the year, they like deep water, depending on the lake you are fishing and turn over for certain lakes is important.

Deep fish in certain Reservoirs and or Flowages also takes place. Getting down to them, over 40 ft deep and creating a consistent day time bite requires, location, depth of that location, presentation, type of bait or lure, (mostly live bait) line, hook, method of hooking the live bait and preventing line tangling on the way down when using Tip Ups, which can be very tricky.

Deep water jigging with artificial’s or live bait works but, much slower results for us in our locations. Remember, were not on Devils Lk, Lk. O.T.W. or the great lakes. Most of our lakes are small compared to others. More on deep water fish fry’s coming soon.

My fishing reports are client related, not from outside sources.

As always, stay positive, think clearly, do not listen to negative talk and do not listen to negative people.

God Bless
